Descrizione
“Fireheart” is a small dragon with blue-green scales, sitting on stones and hugging a lit oil lantern.
What the picture shows
The little dragon sits with its head tilted slightly to one side and looks at the viewer with a large amber eye. Its scales shift from emerald and lime to turquoise and deep blue, and the horns, the crest and the spikes along the back are a golden sand colour. The webbed wings are spread to the sides: blue on the outside, with membranes that glow yellow, orange and terracotta. In its front paws the dragon holds an old lantern with a small flame inside, and the warm light falls on its chest and belly. Grey-brown stones lie under its paws, and the tail ends in a golden leaf-shaped tip.
The white canvas stays as the background, so the figure reads clearly, like a book illustration. Most of the area is worked in counted cross stitch, and backstitch adds the detail: dark lines outline the scales, the wing fingers and the ribs of the lantern, and white strokes give highlights on the glass, the scales and the edges of the wings. The kit holds 33 thread colours, and most of them go into the gradients inside the scales and the wings.

The background is not stitched, so the work moves faster than the number of colours suggests. It is convenient to start with the lantern in the centre and move outwards to the body and the wings, and to lay the dark and white outlines at the end: they pull the picture together at once. The subject suits a child’s room and makes a gift for fantasy fans. The frame, lanterns, books, crystals, candles, dragon figurines and ivy in the photos are props for the shoot and are not part of the kit.
