“Multicolored lion” is a lion's portrait painted as if his mane were woven from coloured strokes and splashes of paint. The piece is loud, cheerful and thoroughly contemporary.

What the picture shows

The lion's face fills almost the whole field: a broad nose, pink nostrils, calm amber eyes. The mane flies outward in rays — red, crimson, orange, yellow, turquoise, violet, with single white and lime strands. The background is coloured too: blue, green and lilac patches with large pale circles like bubbles. There is almost no natural lion shade here — only the warm golden centre of the muzzle holds the composition together. Coverage is full: beads cover the entire field and the colour transitions work like mosaic.
