What the picture shows

The girl is at the centre: her hair gathered and bound with a golden ribbon, her face turned down, her hands resting on her knee. The bodice of her dress shimmers with a small floral pattern in gold, pink, green and blue beads, and the skirt spreads across the floor as a wide fan of coloured strokes — pink, mauve, ochre, turquoise.
