Description

“Nativity scene” is a three-dimensional wreath-shaped ornament with an opening at its centre: a Christmas scene on dark blue Aida, 35 colours, 78 metres of thread.

What the picture shows

The composition unfolds around the ring of the wreath. The nativity itself sits at the bottom: Mary in lilac robes and Joseph bend over the manger, with the magi bearing gifts and sheep beside them. Stylised buildings of an old town with towers and arches rise to left and right. Above the opening an angel spreads its wings in a golden glow, with a large star above it. The ground is dark blue throughout, sown with small yellow stars, so the scene reads as night. The figures are worked in light, warm colours and therefore come forward. The finished ornament is made from two halves, stuffed with hollow fibre and hung on a ribbon.
