“Easter story-2” is a festive still life by a window: willow branches and daffodils in a vase, a candle, a basket of Easter bread and painted eggs. The mood is quiet and homely, like the morning before the feast.

What the picture shows

On the right there is a wicker basket of Easter bread tied with a ribbon, and red apples and painted eggs lie on the table. An icon of the Saviour in a dark frame hangs on the wall under a white cloth. Coverage is partial: beads go on the flowers, willow, candle, vase, towel, basket and bread, while the wall, window, drapery and tabletop stay printed on the canvas. The composition is dense and layered: the eye moves from the icon on the wall down to the candle, on to the willow bouquet and right towards the basket. The colours are warm — ochre, gold and red — with only the window bringing in cool blue.
