“God’s Blessing” is the Mother of God holding the Christ Child: eyes closed, her cheek pressed to the baby’s head, a blue and turquoise veil and a golden halo.
What the picture shows
Mary holds the sleeping baby gently in both hands, her head bent to his brow. Her veil falls from her head over her shoulders in wide folds, and every fold is broken into a mosaic of blue, turquoise, pale blue, grey and golden patches. Her dress beneath it is ochre and gold, with a pattern along the neckline. The baby is wrapped in a cream blanket with touches of pink, beige and white, and one little foot peeks out from under it. A large golden halo surrounds Mary’s head, and a smaller one shows behind the child. The background is light grey-blue, as if painted with broad palette-knife strokes, with patches of white and gold beads scattered over it.
The beading is almost full. Beads cover the veil, the dress, the blanket, the halos and the light patches of the background, while the faces, the hands and the child’s head stay printed on the canvas. This keeps the skin soft and warm, while the clothing around it glitters and shifts like a church mosaic. There are more than ten thousand beads, so the piece takes time and patience, yet there are only 19 colours, and the transitions between them are easy to follow.

The pattern is printed straight on the canvas, so there is no counting. It is easy to start with the halo, where the colours are even and the hand settles into a rhythm, then move on to the veil and leave the blanket with its fine transitions for the end. The piece suits a home prayer corner or makes a christening gift. Gallery finishing is provided for, with no frame and no mat. The frame with a mount, candle, rosary, book, vases, lamp and olive branches in the photos are props for the shoot and are not part of the kit.
