Kit de bordado con abalorios sobre lienzo artístico «Pequeño concierto»

“Small concert” shows a girl in a blue dress playing the violin, with her only listener — a long-haired collie — sitting attentively in front of the music stand. The scene is quiet and warm, and it carries the seriousness children bring to their own small performances.

What the picture shows

It takes place in a bright room with tall windows and house plants, on a warm wooden floor. The main colours are the sky blue of the dress and hair bow against the cream and golden-red of the dog's coat. Beads cover the girl, the violin, the sheet of music, the chair back and the whole of the collie's fur — and it is on the dog that beadwork does its best work, with separate stitches of different lengths reading as long strands of hair. The interior, the windows and the plants stay as print on the artist canvas, so the figures step clearly forward.

The piece is close to square with a slight horizontal lean, and it sits well in a child's room, a music room or on the wall beside a piano. The subject is calm and free of harsh colour, so it is easy to live with. Gallery finishing is possible — the canvas stretches over a bar and hangs as it is.
