“Raccoon” shows a raccoon peeking out of a pocket and tossing yellow maple leaves into the air.

What the picture shows

The animal is worked in grey, white and dark brown: a crisp striped mask on the face, black bead eyes, a pale chest and paws raised as if it has just thrown up an armful of leaves. Maple leaves scatter above it in a fan, from deep yellow to orange and russet, each with a darker outline and a thin stalk. The composition is upright: a compact figure below, a spray of leaves above. Seventeen floss colours are split between the fur and the autumn leaves. The background is not stitched at all and the fabric of the garment stays as the ground — in the photo dark blue denim, where the yellow glows most. The leaf outlines are deliberately uneven, so the scatter looks alive.
