“Dance” — a young couple in Ukrainian dress spin through a dance in a village yard.

What the picture shows

The girl wears a ribboned floral wreath, an embroidered blouse, a white skirt with red and green patterning, a blue apron and red boots; she leans back and the ribbons stream out behind her. Her partner is in a brown coat belted with a striped sash and a cap, holding a red-patterned ceremonial towel high above them. Around them are a thatched cottage, trees, a wattle fence, a barrel, a basket of eggs, a jug, sheaves of wheat and scattered apples. The palette is warm — red, green, ochre and blue.
