Toile imprimée pour broderie de perles (sans perles) « Soirée pluvieuse »
Description
“Rainy Evening” shows an old street in the rain: a red tram, a tall lamppost and passers-by with umbrellas on wet cobbles.
What the picture shows
On the left a red and yellow tram stands on the rails, its windows lit; behind it runs a row of pale buildings with mouldings and a dome on the corner. Just right of centre rises a black lamppost with several blue-glass lanterns. Two figures walk along the pavement — a woman in a red dress under an umbrella and a man in dark clothes beside her — with another pair further off. The sky is pink-grey, the cobbles glisten, and branches in the top left catch the orange light. The beading is partial: the circles cover the tram, the lamppost, the outlines of the façades, the tree and the highlights on the road, while the sky, the depth of the street and the figures themselves stay as painting on the canvas.
