What the picture shows

At the upper left is a heavy cluster of sunflowers with dark centres and sharp yellow-orange petals, standing in a blue-green faceted vase. Across the middle lies a honey-coloured violin with a black fingerboard, its slim bow cutting the canvas on a diagonal. At the lower right, sheets of music and a napkin show white, with a cup in a lilac pattern set upon them. The background is built from broad ochre and cream strokes, like crumpled cloth. Coverage is partial: beads go onto the flowers, the vase, the violin, the cup and the highlights, while the painterly background and the sheet music stay as print on the canvas. Most of the beading goes into the sunflowers, where each petal is worked as its own row.
