What the picture shows

The girl tilts her head and holds the flowers close; she has light wavy hair and a large blue bow. The dress is the main feature of the picture: a layered skirt in lilac, pink and blue, a yellow sash and a long pale train trailing along the floor. The room around her is muted: a tall window with a white frame, dark patterned walls, a stack of books and dark furniture on the right, and on the floor an old carpet with several paintings laid down flat. The kitten sits at the lower left with its head raised. The beads cover the dress, the bow, the flowers, the window frame, the carpet pattern and the furniture; the face, the hands and the kitten stay as print on the canvas, so the clothing carries the most texture.
