Opis
“Northern Alpha” is a full-face portrait of a wolf in a circle, set against snow-covered firs and mountain peaks.
What the picture shows
The wolf looks straight at the viewer with amber eyes. Its fur is thick and mottled: russet and sand on the muzzle and between the ears, white on the cheeks and chin, grey-blue and almost black on the ruff. Snow-laden firs close in on the head from both sides, overlapping the fur as if they grew out of it. Behind them stand mountain peaks with snowy slopes, and above them a pale winter sky. The whole composition is set in a circle with a soft blue edge, so on the white canvas it looks like a medallion.
The 18-count canvas gives a fine cross, and that is what makes it possible to render the gaze, the wet nose and the shifts in the fur. Backstitch works for texture here: dark strokes ruffle the fur on the ears and the top of the head, thin lines trace the mountain ridges, and white stitches become whiskers, single hairs and snow on the branches. The kit holds 39 thread colours, a good part of them close shades of grey, blue and brown.

This is a piece for an experienced stitcher: fine canvas, solid coverage of the whole circle and many close shades that are easy to confuse in evening light. The digital chart from the QR code helps, since one colour can be highlighted at a time. It is convenient to start with the eyes and the nose, to see the character straight away, and move out towards the edges. The frame, mount, pine cones, fir branches, candles, books, blanket and wolf figurine in the photos are props for the shoot and are not part of the kit.
