“A Sultry noon” is a shady garden corner under a white parasol, at the hour when the sun is high and no one is about.

What the picture shows

Beyond the parasol the sun-filled garden opens up: tall trees with yellow-green crowns, shrubs, a path. Pink and white flowers bloom in the corners. The sky above is lilac-pink. Coverage is partial: the parasol, table, planters, pergola and flowers are beaded, while the painterly depth of the garden with its trees stays as print on the canvas.
