“Preserve the Moment” is a stand of field poppies, poppy seed heads and dried umbels in shades of ochre, honey and terracotta.
What the picture shows
This is a late-summer meadow arranged as a tall composition. Poppies crowd the lower part: open cups with dark centres, half-open buds and round seed heads. Above them, umbels of dill and wild carrot rise on thin stems, some honey yellow, others dark brown, close to chocolate. Lacy twigs with small round berries and terracotta grasses show between them. A warm peach haze fills the lower part of the piece and fades away towards the top, where the canvas stays bare.
The design combines two techniques. The petals, the umbels and the background are worked in counted cross stitch, and the veins on the petals, the stems, the twigs and the outlines of the berries are laid over them in backstitch. These fine dark lines make the piece look like a botanical ink drawing with a watercolour wash. The coffee-coloured canvas serves as the background and supports the warm palette. The kit holds 18 thread colours.

There are few colours, yet the difficulty is high because of the backstitch: there are many fine lines, and they cross areas that are already stitched. It is easiest to finish all the crosses first and leave the backstitch for the end, working upwards from the lower poppies. The frame with a mount, the vase of dried flowers, candles, mug, notebooks, glasses and ears of grain in the photos are props for the shoot and are not part of the kit.
