Description
“Playful kitten” shows a stretching cat covered in colourful pattern.
What the picture shows
The cat stretches diagonally across the picture: front paws reach forward and down to the left, the back arches, the tail rises and curls. The outline is drawn in black beads and the inside is packed with ornament — large fan-shaped mandalas on the haunch and flank, small flowers, drops and scrolls worked in red, pink, lilac, green, blue, orange and yellow beads. The face, with its narrowed eye and whiskers, is patterned too. The background is printed: soft watercolour washes of pink, pale blue, yellow and green like tie-dyed cloth; it stays unbeaded and does not compete with the figure.
