Description
“Flight of Imagination” is a large butterfly above an open book, stitched in lilac, pink and turquoise over watercolour washes.
What the picture shows
The composition is vertical. At its centre is a butterfly with fully open wings: the upper wings run from orange and terracotta at the base to crimson, lilac and plum at the tips, the lower ones are turquoise and blue-green with white and black dots along the edge. The body is dark, the antennae fine, and above them rise two golden curls, like the trail a thought leaves in the air. Beneath the butterfly lies an open book: the pages are stitched in pearl, lilac and terracotta beads so that every edge of paper is visible. Watercolour splashes, small flowers and vertical turquoise and pink strokes scatter around, some of them also filled with beads. The background is light, almost white, so all the colour stays in the centre.
