“Winter morning” is a quiet snowbound landscape: a wooden cabin with a lit window on the hillside, an old footbridge over the frozen river and a village in the distance. Snow lies generously on the fir branches and the slopes, and the sky is turning pink in the east.

What the picture shows

The range is cool and soft — white, blue, lilac and grey-blue in the shadows, warmed by yellow lights in the windows and a few red roofs far off.
