Description
“Floral talisman” is a bookmark of red flowers and green leaves in the Ukrainian folk manner, worked on coffee-coloured Aida. It is the simplest kit in the series: 7 colours, 23 metres of thread, no metallic.
What the picture shows
A flowering branch runs vertically up the centre: a closed tulip-like bud at the top, and below it two open blooms with rounded petals and a pale centre of small knots. The petals are worked in two shades of red — darker at the edge, brighter within — which gives the flower depth. The leaves are dark green and elongated, spreading from the stem in both directions. Small diamonds with a red dot at their centre sit either side of the flowers, a classic element of folk ornament. The ground is not left bare: the whole field is sown with small green crosses and red dots in a chequer pattern, so the piece reads as a complete cloth rather than a motif on canvas. A red zigzag edging runs round the perimeter.
