Description
“Mountain's magic” is a bookmark with a mountain ridge and geometric ethnic ornament, worked in red and coral on black Aida. It is the most contrasting design in the series and also the most economical: 6 colours, 18 metres of thread.
What the picture shows
At the top runs a ridge of sharp peaks, worked as a gradient: the summits are almost white with a pale peach cast, the colour thickens to orange further down and deepens to dark red at the foot, so the mountains read as lit by a setting sun. Below them runs a vertical band of folk ornament: concentric diamonds set one inside another, a square medallion with an interlaced sign at its centre, and rows of small zigzags and triangles. Lower still is a second medallion and a diamond frieze that narrows to a wedge. The black Aida remains as the ground and is only partly covered, so the red glows against the dark. A red zigzag edging runs round the perimeter.

This is the design where the choice of ground changes the object itself: on black the ornament looks sharp and graphic, on white it turns light and almost watercolour. Both pieces are in the box.
