Description
“Power of three” is a bookmark about reading and magic: a witch's hat on a stack of three books, gold stars and laurel sprigs. Coffee-coloured Aida, a green-and-brown palette, 14 colours.
What the picture shows
At the centre is a pointed witch's hat — grey, with a bent tip, a brown band and a gold buckle. It rests on three books stacked one on another: green, brown and green again, with gilded page edges and pale spines. Above the hat is a large gold eight-pointed star, with smaller stars and dots scattered around it. At the foot of the composition, two green laurel sprigs flank another gold star. The whole scene is outlined in fine black in the shape of an arch with a shaped top and base. The ground is the coffee Aida itself, left unstitched so that it works as the colour of parchment and makes the piece look like a page from an old grimoire. A green zigzag edging runs round the border.
