Description

“Artifact of time” is a scarab beetle in turquoise and gold on grey fabric. DMC floss, 18 metres of metallic thread in two colours, and Czech beads.

What the picture shows

The beetle is shown strictly from above and symmetrically, as though pinned in a museum case. The elytra are turquoise with a fine pale pattern down the centre that resembles a mask; head, thorax and legs are a warm gold-copper with clear segmentation. Translucent blue wings extend sideways from beneath the elytra, worked in lighter shades — they are what make the beetle look about to take off. The antennae spread upward and end in clubs. The grey fabric is left unstitched, scattered with barely visible pale curl motifs worked in a single strand: they read as the dust of time around the artifact.
