Description

“Berry cupcakes” is a spring still life in which a teapot has turned into a small house wreathed in tulips and daffodils. Thirty-five colours on pale yellow Aida.

What the picture shows

At the centre stands a round green teapot with a door cut into it under a pink canopy and two windows in white frames; the spout and handle stay where they belong, so the house still reads as a teapot. A spring bouquet rises around it: pink and lilac tulips, yellow daffodils, small blue squills and long pointed leaves. Sweets are laid out at the foot — a cupcake with pink icing, a cup and saucer and a few pastries — and small wooden steps lead up to the door. The ground is left unstitched: the pale yellow Aida works as warm air around the scene, while thin printed pencil lines of the stems tie the bouquet together.
