Description

“In the winter forest one day” is a night forest stitched solidly on dark blue Aida: trees, animals and a fir hung with red garlands. 240×340 mm, 38 colours.

What the picture shows

The composition is filled from bottom to top. A tall fir stands at the centre, wound with red beads and garlands and topped with a star. Around it spreads a forest of differently shaped trees: round silvery crowns, sharp turquoise firs, thin bare branches. Animals are placed among the trunks — an antlered deer on the left, a fox on the right, hares, a squirrel, owls on the branches, a hedgehog and several fly agarics below. The sky is deep blue, sown with small white stars and snowflakes. The whole area is stitched solidly, so the piece reads as a dense tapestry with no gaps.
