Description

“Provence morning” shows lavender fields, a tiled roof and breakfast in the foreground. Thirty-six colours on ecru fabric.

What the picture shows

The upper part is landscape: an orange roof between dark green cypresses, hills beyond, and rows of lavender running down from it — worked in short diagonal strokes of lilac, violet and yellow, so the field looks as though it moves. The sky is indicated by a few blue strokes and stays almost empty. In the foreground stands a large patterned blue cup with steam rising from it; beside it lie a bundle of lavender tied with red ribbon, a stack of golden shortbread and two pink macarons. The ecru fabric is left unstitched and works as the warm light of early morning.
