Description

“Wish star” shows a girl in a long dress reaching up for a star against a night sky. A narrow vertical format, 200×380 mm.

What the picture shows

The figure is seen from behind, in profile to the viewer: one raised hand holds a small star, the other hangs down, the hair is gathered into a high knot. The full-skirted dress occupies the lower third of the piece and is worked in warm beige-pink with deep grey shadows in the folds. The ground is a night sky shading from violet to near black, sown with hundreds of small pale specks. Around the raised hand the specks thicken into a glow, as though the star had just flared. There are no outlines: the silhouette holds together purely on the difference between light and dark.
